How to renew a Windows 2003 Enterprise CA's certificate?
Details
Follow the steps below to renew a Windows 2003 Enterprise CA's certificate:
1. Log onto the Windows 2003 server that is the Enterprise CA.
2. Open the Certificate Authority utility in Administrative Tools.
3. Right click the Root CA name and select All Tasks.
4. Select Renew CA Certificate.
5. It will ask if it is ok to stop the Certificate Services. Select Yes.
6. The wizard runs and gives one choice, to select a new key or keep the old one. Unless one has a reason to want a new key, just select NO.
When it finishes running, the CA will have its new certificate.
If the clients do not see it as a trusted CA, then force them to reload the policy with a reboot or a GPupdate /force command. Before doing this, make sure the Active Directory has had time to replicate the new information.
