Using DiskGenius Software System Migration
With DiskGenius software, it is easy to migrate a system from one hard disk to another, or more commonly, from a hard disk to an SSD, USB flash drive, etc. The first step is to install the second hard disk, SSD, or USB flash drive on your computer.
First of all, you need to install the second hard disk, SSD or USB flash drive, etc. on your computer, then start the system and run the DiskGenius software. You should be able to see the second hard disk (or SSD, USB flash drive, etc.) in the DiskGenius software.
1. In the DiskGenius main menu, click the "Tools - System Migration" menu item, as shown below. 2:
2. Select the target disk for system migration and click the "OK" button. The target disk can be smaller than the source disk, but the capacity of the target disk should be larger than the total amount of used data on the source disk. 3.
3. For UEFI-enabled computers, you can also specify whether you want to change the system boot options after the migration is complete. Click the Start button to prepare for the migration. 4.
4. The program displays the following warning that all data on the target disk will be overwritten. After confirming that there is no problem, click the "OK" button. 5.
5. The DiskGenius software will let users choose the mode of system migration as shown below:
Hot Migration is to migrate the system to the second hard disk without shutting down the computer, during the migration process, users can still do all kinds of operations on the computer without affecting the user's use of the computer. Reboot to WinPE, the DiskGenius software will reboot the computer, enter WinPE system automatically, start DiskGenius under WinPE automatically and perform system migration automatically. In most cases, it is more convenient and safer to use the hot migration method, so it is recommended to use this system migration mode. 6. Click the "Hot Migration" button.
6. Click the "Hot Migration" button, DiskGenius will start the hot migration operation as shown below:
In the System Migration window, a progress bar will be displayed, which shows the approximate progress of the system migration. Below the progress bar, it shows the size of the data that has been copied, and the size of the data that hasn't been copied yet, as well as the amount of time that has been spent and the estimated amount of time that will be needed to complete the system migration.
7. After completing the system migration, the DiskGenius software will give you an indication that the system migration is complete, as shown below:
After the system is migrated to the second hard disk (or SSD, USB flash drive, etc.), if it is a UEFI-enabled computer, and you have set the boot from target disk after migration to complete before migrating the system. After restarting the computer, it will automatically boot with the new system after migration. Otherwise, you need to manually enter the BIOS settings and set the boot hard disk to the new hard disk, then you can use this hard disk to boot the computer and enter the system.
After entering the system, you will find that the software installed in the Windows system, along with the data in the original system partition, have been moved to the new system partition on the target hard disk. You can use the computer as before without changing anything, no need to reinstall the system, no need to reinstall the software, and no need to copy the data, it is very convenient.
Tip:
System migration will repartition the target hard disk, which means that if there is data on the target hard disk, it will be lost. Therefore, you need to backup the important data in the target disk before migrating the system.
